
Captain Henry Morgan and his ruthless band of buccaneers were determined to sack the city of Panama. They had landed on the Atlantic coast of Central America and fought their way across to the Pacific side, where the city was located. They reached the city on January 28, 1671, to find that the city's population had rallied behind Don Juan Perez de Guzman, the local commander.
