The Inca culture of the Andes had a complicated religion. They had a pantheon of greater gods, but also worshiped spirits called huacas which could reside just about anywhere. Among their greater gods was Chuqui Illa, the Thunder God, who brought rain from the Milky Way. He also selected his own priests: any boy born during a thunderstorm was marked for life as a "Son of the Thunder" and would eventually enter Chuqui Illa's priesthood.
