Haiti: the US Occupation 1915-1934

In 1908, Haiti broke down socially and politically: armed bands loyal to violent warlords fought in the streets. The US invaded and occupied the country in 1915, fearing for strategic and economic interests in the region. The occupation proved unpopular with both Haitians and Americans and the Americans left in 1934. What went on in the twenty years in between?
