It was on January 1, 1959, that Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista finally admitted that Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution had won. Abandoning his wealthy cronies and government bureaucrats, Batista grabbed millions of dollars and took off: he eventually settled in Portugal.
